Training Thru Placement, Inc. (TTP), a certified Rhode Island Disability Business Enterprise, has been serving adults with special needs since 1970. Our missiion is to provide evaluation, training and an array of employment opportunities that stress the growth and development of the individual. By encouraging self-sufficiency through gainful employment, these individuals become contributing, responsible members of their community.
Several people have been successfully placed in private industry over the years and are continually supported through a regular monitoring process. By working with the individual and employer, we are generally able to solve any issues that might hinder the employee's ability to retain his or her job. We have placed employees in all types of industry including restaurants, supermarkets, colleges, nursing homes, light manufacturing and of course, our own Pandora's Products, a community-based food processing and retail business.
For those who prefer to work in a sheltered setting, a variety of jobs are available at TTP through our Contract Division. These include assembly, packaging, shrink wrapping, heat sealing, shipping and receiving, plant maintenance and light cooking in our cafeteria. we have several contracts with local companies that provide a steady, reliable source of work throughout the year, and offering a choice of vocational activities is always an important element of our program at TTP.
Although TTP is vocationally focused, we also have some fun by offering opportunities for social interaction through a variety of events during the year. These include several holiday dances and dinners, day trips and an annual summer vacation. Funds for these activities are raised through sales of lapel pins, annual golf tournament and donations.
TTP is also the admistrator of a statewide system of respite care providing families of children and adults with developmental disabilities "time off" when needed. This service allows families the ability to plan a night out, a vacation or to meet an unexpected or emergency situation. For many of these families, Respite Services is a valuable resource that allows them to keep their family member at home knowing that when they need a "break," they can rely on this program to provide them with a trained caregiver.
